After the decision of the International Pointer Club to join, the list of Clubs and persons that have declared their support to our proposals to turn 2013 into a Historical Pointer Year, is now increased to 27 from more than 20 different nations

A complete list of Clubs and individuals is enclosed. To our opinion there is now sufficient enthusiasm to mutually decide about the events to be organized in 2013. In order to get things started we take the liberty to quote some proposals, without going into details yet. But by all means, please be free to come up with your ideas, additional items and/or corrections.

We repeat that it is absolutely not our intention that all events are taking place in our country and/or are organized by us.  Of course we will do our part representing the nation that host the city of Utrecht, were it all began. History has proved that many of the Clubs and individuals are very well capable to organize special events.

Assuming that we all stand behind the Dual Purpose principle of our breed, the activities should concern both work and beauty.

¬WORK:

•-When we consider the work of the English Pointer, it is obvious that field trials should play an important role of the activities.

•-It may be expected that mainly members of European Clubs would participate and considering England’s rather strict import regulations for dogs, such trials should best take place in trial fields on the Continent of Europe.

•-Another aspect is the variety of trial systems between the Scandinavian Countries and other west European countries

•-When in the text below we quote “open” we propose International Championship Trials and  that participation is possible for all members of the national clubs and individuals that have shown their interest in the 2013 events.

•-All trials are open for individual and/or national team participation.

•Bearing the above in mind the following could be developed:

Springtrials:

•-Open Trials organized by one or more Scandinavian countries based on the trial system applicable in these countries .

•-Open Grande Quête (Quête Anglais) Trials organized by the International Pointer Club, with the European Championship Title at stake.

•-Open Quête à la Francaise Trials organized by one or more continental European Pointer Club(s).

Autumntrials:

•-Open trials Practical Hunting (Gibier Tiré, including retrieving) organized by the International Pointer Club, with the European Championship Title at stake.

•-Open trials Quête de Chasse organized by a Scandinavian Country  (or a combination of countries) based on the trial system applicable in these countries.

•-Open trials Quête de Chasse organized by a European country (or a combination of countries).

•The male and the female winners of each trial should be awarded with a special Title and Price.

¬BEAUTY AND THE BREED’S STANDARD

•-During all trials the participating Pointers will be judged by qualified Pointer judges on their conformity with the  standard.

•-Annually the city of Utrecht  in our country organizes a CACIB show for all breeds. The Pointer Club of The Netherlands could discuss with the organization of this show, to put the Pointer in the centre of the show activities with international judges. Why in Utrecht? In this city the Peace of Utrecht was signed in 1713 and many cultural activities are scheduled for 2013 in memory of it.

•-After completion of this show a symposium could be held on;

The standard of the English Pointer breed

•Various items related to the Pointer standard can be basis of an international discussion presided over by an international forum of qualified Pointer men- and women.

¬REGISTRATION OF “POINTER 2013”

•For future reference beyond the year 2013, all what we undertake in that year should be registered. Including an introduction of the Clubs of all supporting nations. A full color edition of a book would be ideal. However we will probably find out that the costs for it

•may not be feasible. A less expensive Special Magazine, also in full color, could be a possibility. As an example we refer to our Club’s Magazine, which most of you have received earlier this year. Imagine a copy of 100 or more pages.

•A general idea of the contents could be:

-Introduction of all participating Pointer Clubs; their history and present position.

-Reports of all trials, with many Pointer action pictures including the winners of course.

-Report of the Pointer Show with pictures.

-Full report about the symposium including pictures of participating individuals, etc.

-Various items we can further think of in relation to the breed and the year.

¬FINANCIAL

•As usual funds will be needed to finance all what we eventually will execute. In most of the occasions subscription fees are not sufficient to cover all the expenses.

•Some ideas from our side:

A-The best would be to agree about a budget for the whole year. The surplus of costs after deduction of the subscription fees should be covered by one important sponsor. Trials, show and magazine. From our experience we estimate that for each event an amount of somewhere between three and five thousand euro will be needed to secure a solid and high level. The costs for the issue of a magazine or book come on top of it.

B-Or the funds needed for each event is financed by the Club or combination of Clubs organizing it. They will have best possibilities to find sponsors locally.

C-In case of B, the financing of the magazine could be found in funds raised by all clubs.

•An “X” amount for each member of each club could suffice. If we assume that the 27 clubs represent in total 2700 members( may be more?), an “X” amount per member could cover the cost.

•All participating clubs would afterwards have the opportunity to sell a number of copies in their own country to their members and others at a price to be agreed upon and thus get refund of the money they have originally put into the magazine.

D-Our contribution would be to raise funds for the show and the symposium. And do all the work to edit the magazine.

•We suggest you all study our ideas and come back to us with alternatives and adjustments to our proposals before November 1st this year. Since financing will be a very important basis for all we want to do, sufficient time is needed to raise it. Yes we agree, it is still two and a half year to go but time runs fast and time is what is absolutely needed to well prepare all we want. Therefore we suggest after November 1st we should have a general idea about the feasibility of what we want to do in 2013.

•Also we would welcome your suggestions about the composition of the Committee. We are quite happy if there are experienced organizers that are prepared to join our party. Please let us know.
